Stella McCartney Collects OBE From The Queen In Navy Skirt Suit
Posted on June 6, 2013 at 4:02 pm
Stella McCartney was at Buckingham Palace today with her husband, Alasdhair Willis, to receive her OBE for services to fashion from the Queen. She was the perfect advertisement for her clothing line in a navy cinched bespoke skirt suit by Stella, which she wore with a pair of blue velvet heels from her own collection. Simple, but oh-so chic.
Stella accessorised the suit with a Cartier headpiece which featured a delicate veil over her face. She looked flawless, we thinks. Ever since Jennifer Lawrence wore a delicate French veil in her first campaign for Miss Dior we have been a tad obsessed with this look. It’s classic, chic and ladylike – the perfect headpiece to meet the Queeny.
Stella, who founded her label in 2001, said to the Press Association about the honour: ‘I feel really proud and really excited and honoured to be here.’ Stella was named in the New Year’s Honours List after she created the Olympic kit for Team G.B. with Adidas.
Stella spoke to Grazia Daily when she reveiled her Team G.B designs and said: ‘I don’t think I ever would have imagined this. All I can say is – I’m so honoured, it really is such a great privilege to be involved.’
2012 was a big year for Stella as she was also named designer of the year at the British Fashion Awards, returned to London Fashion Week for a one off eveningwear show and dressed stars including Kate Middleton. Grazia Daily spoke to Stella at the British Fashion Awards about being a fashionable Brit and she said ‘It’s amazing to be born in London and to have a team of people that are from all over the world that choose to be part of a British brand, it is incredible. I feel so proud.’
Stella McCartney joins other British designers Dame Vivienne Westwood and Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen who have been awarded an OBE by the Queen for services to fashion.
