Fashion Jury: Rosamund Pike Rates Her Best Red Carpet Dresses From Dior To Gucci
Posted on January 26, 2014 at 9:02 am
As we reported earlier this week, Rosamund Pike has turned her hand to designing, creating a handbag line for high-street hero, L.K. Bennett. Grazia Daily got a sneak preview of the actress’ creations at a swanky showcase and we can assure you they’re divine. But as well as talking all things bags, we couldn’t miss the opportunity to discuss Rosamund’s red carpet style that goes from strength to strength.
‘You’re always thinking ‘Am I going to get slaughtered by the critics’,’ the actress told us of choosing what to wear for swanky occasions. And yet she never wants to play it safe. ‘I want to give something for people to debate over. I’d rather cause a storm than people just say it’s ok.’
So forget the critics, how does she rate some of her greatest looks Let’s play fashion jury!
1. DIOR FOR THE VANITY FAIR OSCARS PARTY – FEBRUARY 2013
‘I was going to the Dior couture show in Paris and went to the show room to pick a coat to wear. Then I saw this and asked if I could try it on. I just fell in love with it. I thought, “I’ve got to think of somewhere I can wear this to”. Then I wasn’t in any way connected to the Oscars because I wasn’t in a film that was nominated so I didn’t want to wear anything that looked like I was trying to steal anyone else’s show. This was so easy to put on so I didn’t have to spend a lot of time getting ready.
‘You always have to keep track of who’s wearing what and an actress who I didn’t know had already worn it in Spain. But I just thought, “I don’t care, I just want to wear this so much!” Funnily enough, it was someone seeing me in this outfit that made them think of me for one of the films I’ve just done. You don’t know why you pick something but for some reason, for some director, this look embodied their character. There is this symbiosis.’
2. GUCCI FOR THE VENICE FILM FESTIVAL – SEPTEMBER 2010
‘You have more of an opportunity at the film festival to look more glam. The film I was promoting was called Barney’s Version and my character has to age so I wanted to make sure that when I went on the red carpet, I looked young and glamorous. The only thing I would change about that look I wouldn’t do hair extensions, but I went for the mermaid look and I wanted to cover the shoulders. Whenever I do hair extensions, I usually regret them.’
3. ALEXANDER MCQUEEN FOR THE BAFTA AWARDS
‘Technically, this is the kind of colour I should never wear, but a very skilful make-up artist helped me out. I was presenting so it’s about trying to look like you haven’t tried too hard. If I’m there for a reason and it’s my premiere, I’m fine with going all out and saying this is my moment. But when it’s not my moment, I want to feel relaxed. This dress has a summery, beachy vibe with beachy hair.’
4. ALEXANDER MCQUEEN FOR JACK REACHER PREMIERE
‘Oh, this one’s amazing! I had a completely different dress lined up but on the morning, the McQueen team came to my house with this and I fell in love with it. I’d seen it at the show but I didn’t think we were going to get it. It was January in London and this dress was just such a big splash of colour. I do dress for myself and I picture the mood of the fans of the film. If it’s a film premiere, I think about what they might like to see, especially if they’ve been waiting for ages. There are not many opportunities to wear something like that.’
