Stella McCartney Collects OBE From The Queen In Navy Skirt Suit

Posted on June 6, 2013 at 4:02 pm

Stella McCartney was at Buckingham Palace today with her husband, Alasdhair Willis, to receive her OBE for services to fashion from the Queen. She was the perfect advertisement for her clothing line in a navy cinched bespoke skirt suit by Stella, which she wore with a pair of blue velvet heels from her own collection. Simple, but oh-so chic.

Stella accessorised the suit with a Cartier headpiece which featured a delicate veil over her face. She looked flawless, we thinks. Ever since Jennifer Lawrence wore a delicate French veil in her first campaign for Miss Dior we have been a tad obsessed with this look. It’s classic, chic and ladylike – the perfect headpiece to meet the Queeny.

Stella, who founded her label in 2001, said to the Press Association about the honour: ‘I feel really proud and really excited and honoured to be here.’ Stella was named in the New Year’s Honours List after she created the Olympic kit for Team G.B. with Adidas.

Stella spoke to Grazia Daily when she reveiled her Team G.B designs and said: ‘I don’t think I ever would have imagined this. All I can say is – I’m so honoured, it really is such a great privilege to be involved.’

2012 was a big year for Stella as she was also named designer of the year at the British Fashion Awards, returned to London Fashion Week for a one off eveningwear show and dressed stars including Kate Middleton. Grazia Daily spoke to Stella at the British Fashion Awards about being a fashionable Brit and she said ‘It’s amazing to be born in London and to have a team of people that are from all over the world that choose to be part of a British brand, it is incredible. I feel so proud.’

Stella McCartney joins other British designers Dame Vivienne Westwood and Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen who have been awarded an OBE by the Queen for services to fashion.

Shopping Fix: Everyone’s Wearing Clear Clutches And See-Through Shoppers

Posted on June 4, 2013 at 7:48 am

They were all over the catwalks for spring summer 2013, and where the runways lead, the A-list are sure to follow in quick succession – case in point, clear clutches and bags! Valentino and Simone Rocha led the way last year when they showed their summer collections – Rocha went for intricate laser cute mini-shoppers in ultra-bright neon, while Valentino treated us to structured mini-clutches with plastic chain handles and signature Valentino studded trim.

Then came the celebrity following – super-stylish Solange Knowles led the way with her Union Jack and fluro orange version, Mad Men actress Elisabeth Moss went ultra-luxe with her leather and spider clasp hard-case clutch, while most recently Bella Thorne treated us to her sunglasses-worthy bright yellow shoulder bag at the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards last weekend.

So what are our rules to nailing this transparent trend

  1. For eveningwear, chose a hard-shell mini clutch and pack light – a hard-working debit card, chewing gum, house keys and iPhone is all we need!
  2. Daytime is a whole other ballgame – we pack ours to the max, but pop a textured clutch in there for our valuables and got-to-keep-private carry-on items!
  3. These bags aren’t just warm weather favourites – to make them work hard, pop a leather dark wallet or clutch inside for winter months, then replace with a raffia or 3D floral clutch come summertime to transform it into a wallet-friendly whole new bag!

Shop our pick of the best clear clutches and see-through shoppers available below!

From left: Clutch with gold inner bag £460 3.1 Phillip Lim, Orange scallop edge tote £1115 Dolce & Gabbana, Green shopper £19.99 New Look

Scout Chic! Madonna, Kate Middleton, Beyonce & More Wear Scout Uniforms

Posted on June 2, 2013 at 9:16 am

The mistress of reinvention, Madonna always tends to be ahead of the curb when it comes to tapping into trends. But no one could have expected that she would launch an unexpected trend, Scout boy chic. A week after Madonna donned the Scout boy garb for the GLAAD awards in New York K-Mid has jumped on the bandwagon. The idea that the Duchess felt so inspired by the way Madonna O-W-N-E-D that uniform that she had to get a piece of the action is just too much to cope with.

Joining a group of Scouts in snowy Cumbria, Kate more than earned herself a badge, pitching in by cooking up a storm around the campfire. Marshmallows all round! However whilst Madonna teamed her scarf with some rather sassy leather fingerless gloves and a highly practical fish net tights, Kate opted for a somewhat questionable 1960s style knitted hat and wellington boots. Perhaps her days as a Brownie taught her style sometimes has to make way for practicality.

However, whilst the Duchess of Cambridge had a legitimate reason to get in touch with her inner scout, Madonna seemed to have just taken a fancy to the uniform. Obvs, Madonna doesn’t just do something for the sake of it. Believe it or not there is an underlying political statement behind the woggle. Madge stated that she always wanted to be Boy Scout but the fact she is a woman meant that she was never allowed to join. She continues, ‘I can build a fire. I know how to pitch a tent. I have a very good sense of direction. I can rescue kittens from trees.’ Can anyone else here Destiny’s Child’s ‘Independent Women’ now ringing in their ears I will never get the image of Madonna rescuing a poor kitty from a tree out of my head. Is there anything she can’t do, sing and act whilst still making time for casual rescue missions! What an idol.

Madonna isn’t the first pop icon to sport the Scout look. Cast your minds back to early noughties when Destiny’s Child were booty shaking all over the show. The three bootylicous babes hit the Nickelodeon Kid’s Choice awards wearing khaki scout uniforms, fresh from Beyonce’s Mum’s sewing machine. Naturally Beyonce teamed her cropped shirt with the 2001 millinery phenomenon, the bucket hat. The definition of chic, I am sure you will agree.

If you needed any more convincing that dressing as a boy scout is now one of the chicest pursuits, we delved into the archives and tracked down Debbie Harry dressed like a true scouting pro. Salute and all, Debs is surrounded by her very own pack, The Muppets. Now who wouldn’t want Debbie as their patrol leader

Those of you who want to achieve the new look are not short on movie inspiration. ‘Troop Beverley Hills’ is quite possibly the ultimate inspiration. Starring Shelley Long as the flame haired den mother who works khaki in the most sassy of ways. Scouting is just as much a state of mind as a way of dress so we highly recommend you get yourself down to Blockbuster and rent this DVD, stat, in order to be fully versed in your scouting terminology.

I personally will be taking a leaf out of Darren Criss’s scouting manual and donning a faux fur hat to compliment my newly acquired yellow scarf. Pictured last Halloween partying in the Hollywood hills, Darren like all good scouts was fully prepared fake gun and all. I am pretty jealous of his badge collection; someone has evidently been working around the clock in the wilderness to get so many accolades.

So what are you waiting for ladies, get your sash at the ready, the scout uniform is just as suitable to the urban jungle as it is to orienteering in the great outdoors.

Instagram Pics Of The Day: Cara Delevingne’s Puppy Love, Alexa Chung’s Last Cigarette And Rita Ora’s Hair Cut

Posted on May 31, 2013 at 5:47 pm

The fashion world has gone dog crazy of late, from Donatella Versace’s pampered pooch Audrey to Acne’s latest advertising campaign featuring some very stylish Weimaraners, so we weren’t surprised to see Cara Delevingne hanging out with some adorable canines. The model posted a photo on Instagram in which she plays third wheel to her doggy friends with the caption: “Yin and Yang or should I say Biggie and Bella! It’s time for a pooch smooch”.

Perhaps Cara is looking for some company while her friend Rita Ora is out of the country. The pop star has only just returned from Tokyo and already she’s shooting off to Brazil – but not before getting a new haircut.

Alexa Chung has revealed a super cute braided hair look in a recent pic in which she’s seen huddled in a blanket enjoying what she promises to be her “last cigarette”. The cold weather should definately be a good deterent.

While Alexa is reaching for the Nicotine gum, Lindsay Lohan is busy brushing her teeth. The actress is seen polishing her pearly whites on the set of TV show Anger Management in which she plays Charlie Sheen’s love interest.

Michael Kors launches SS13 Sneakers line: Grazia Speaks To Director Of Short Film Poppy De Villeneuve About Inspiration And Style Tips

Posted on May 29, 2013 at 4:59 pm

Here at Grazia HQ we are a liiiitle bit obsessed with trainers. High tops, customised running shoes, hidden platforms – we are lovin’ them all. So we were giddy when the images of the new Michael Kors sneakers landed in our inbox.

The new collection features high-tops, trainers and slip-on silhouettes, with metallic finishes, bursts of neon colour and embossed snakeskin textures. The sneakers range from £99 to £165 and are available on Michaelkors.com and in store worldwide from now. Anyone else tempted to splurge

As if we needed any more reason to make us fall for the sneakers, Michael Kors have shot a film directed by super cool photographer Poppy de Villeneuve. The vid follows model Karmen Pedaru on a day in Los Angeles, driving to the beach, jumping in the sand and dancing on tables after dark, all while wearing Michael Kors sneakers.

Watch the short film and find out what inspires Poppy in our exclusive interview below…

Q+A with director Poppy De Villeneuve

Grazia Daily caught up with Poppy to discover her favourite films, books, restaurants, cocktails and more. Find out Poppy’s inspiration and style tips in the Q+A below.

A city I love…

Berlin. I love riding around on my bicycle discovering new parks and restaurants, great shops and galleries.

A photographer I love…

Mark Steinmetz. His book South East is a huge inspiration to me.

A director I love…

Wim Wenders. He continues to reveal new things about himself and the world through his films. A true inspiration, his work grows with him.

A museum I love…

MoMA PS1. I love the space of the actual museum (it used to be a public school). The James Turrell site-specific piece “Meeting” is one of my favourites.

A film I love…

Paris, Texas. Harry Dean Stanton and Nastassja Kinski are amazing.

A book I love…

A Visit from the Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan. She is such a wonderful writer, and I think her sense of time and the future in this book make so much sense.

A restaurant I love…

Keens Steakhouse in midtown Manhattan. It was one of the first places I went to when I arrived in NYC. It’s full of stories of baseball players, presidents and theatre actors who have all graced its different rooms to smoke pipes.  Now the pipes line the ceiling and old photographs hang on the walls.

A bar I love…

The Boom Boom Room. To me, this is what a bar should be—elegant and high above the “real” world. It’s like slipping back into the 1920s.

A cocktail I love…

An Old Fashioned.

Poppy De Villeneuve

An accessory I love…

I’m into handbags. Chic, classic—ones you can hand down to your children.

A style icon I love…

Sofia Coppola. She always looks elegant and feminine but in a simple, effortless way. She knows herself in the clothes she is wearing and that comes across.

A fashion model I love…

Karmen Pedaru! She was so wonderful to work with and she understands film. She is totally professional and looks beautiful with or without make-up. I couldn’t take my eyes off of her!

A Michael Kors piece I love…

The Miranda tote in navy blue and the leather shirtdress in midnight. Super chic for running around town.

A moment from the Michael Kors sneakers shoot I love…

When we were shooting on the beach, we were rushing to get a shot as the sun was setting. But as is the nature of film, we had a crew of about 20 people attached to the camera, walking backwards as Karmen strolled along the water’s edge. It felt like we were in a Buster Keaton movie. And it was the last shot of the day, so we were all celebrating and jumping in the sand because we got the shot!

A Michael Kors quote I love…

I think if you’re out in the world, really living and engaging, then there’s never a shortage of ideas!

Portobello. It reminds me of my college days and I still wear the pieces I got there.

iPad. I like being light on my feet and being able to swap from fiction to non-fiction to The New Yorker in one tap.

Bike or Cab

Bike (with helmet and reflectors). So many adventures.

Flats. I’m usually running around somewhere with a camera in my hand… I need the freedom to go wherever, whenever.
