Did Low Key Bride Keira Knightley Recycle Her Wedding Dress

Posted on August 1, 2013 at 9:16 am

Is this Keira Knightley’s wedding dress

Keira Knightley had the ultimate low-key, but beautiful wedding yesterday as she tied the knot in front of just 11 people, allowed her guests to wear flip flops and wore simple ballet flats rather than bejewelled Jimmy Choos like your average bridezilla. She even turned up at ceremony in a Renault Clio.

It was rumoured that Keira would be wearing a Karl Lagerfeld Chanel creation, as she is the face of Coco Mademoiselle and so has access to the closely guarded Chanel archives. Us fashion folk predicted delicate sheer sleeves, floral appliqués and exquisite beading. But Keira surprised us all by being a simple, ballerina bride in a strapless blush tulle dress with a classic cream Chanel boucle jacket. She topped off the look with peach ballerina pumps and a simple garland of flowers in her hair.

So we’ve established that Ms Knightley was the antithesis of a bridezilla dripping in diamonds and squeezed into couture. But she is quite possibly the most laid back celebrity bride EVER, as rumour has it she recycled her wedding dress.  Talk about low key – even the most casual of brides normally splash out on a new dress.

Although nothing has been confirmed yet, but the strapless frock she wore skipping through Provence does have a striking resemblence to the strapless tulle number by Rodarte she wore back in 2008. She wore the dress five years ago to a pre-Bafta party with her former flame Rupert Friend. Hmm perhaps it’s a bit unlikely that she would tie the knot in a dress she had worn five years ago on a night out with her ex-boyfriend

Although Ms Knightley did say in an interview she might wear jeans and a tee to her wedding when asked whether Karl would design her dress, ‘It really depends on what sort of wedding I decide to have – if I go with jeans and t-shirt options, then maybe it wouldn’t be quite right,’ she explained.

Mr Karl Lagerfeld is rumoured to have attended the wedding reception at her farmhouse and she was wearing a Chanel boucle jacket – so we can’t rule out that the pretty, ballerina frock is a Chanel creation after all. What do you reckon – is this just a co-incidence or is Keira Knightley the ultimate low-key bride

Met Ball 2013 Couples: Who Is (Rumour Has It) Walking The Red Carpet With Whom

Posted on July 30, 2013 at 8:19 pm

So unless you’ve taken a vacay from planet fashion, we’re sure you have it scribbled in your diaries that tomorrow night is the 2013 Met Ball. We’ve already recapped our favourite vintage Met Ball moments, told you how you can get involved in the red carpet action and done some of our own frock predictions. But that leaves one question – who is walking the red carpet with whom

The Met Gala is where we saw Victoria Beckham walk up the Met steps arm in arm with Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce, Sarah Jessica Parker take Valentino as her date and Marc Jacobs walk the red carpet with Lil Kim (yes, really). So which fashion duos are we expected to see this year Of course the Met Ball dates are meant to be one big fashion secret, but that doesn’t stop a rumour or ten.

Mr Eric Wilson at the New York Times has rounded up who he thinks is dressing who. Of course there are some pretty obvious pairings – Jennifer Lawrence with Dior, the Fanning sisters with Rodarte and Rooney Mara with co-chair Riccardo Tisci. But the weirdest couple rumoured to be hitting the red carpet is a toss up between Nicki Minaj and Tommy Hilfiger and Psy (yes, the K Pop star) and Samsung.

Take a look in the gallery above to see who is rumoured to be walking up the Met steps with whom or read our breakdown of the Gala couples below…

The Week’s Best Dressed: Zoe Saldana, Carey Mulligan, Katy Perry & More

Posted on July 28, 2013 at 8:47 am

Want to see what the stars are wearing as soon as they hit the red carpet Well look no further than Grazia Daily, as we’ll be bringing you all the best-dressed starlets of the week from Sienna Miller to Kate Bosworth to Nicole Kidman. We’ve got plenty of red carpet looks to dissect, from Zoe Saldana in a Calvin Klein midi and crop top combo to Kerry Washington in a dramatic monochrome Wes Gordon gown.

We’ll be keeping an eye on all celeb-packed events this week to hunt out flawless A List style, so keep checking the gallery above for the latest celeb looks and read below to find out the three things you need to know – who, what, wear.

Star Trek Into Darkness London Premiere – Thursday 2 May

To the London premiere at the Empire Cinema Zoe Saldana wore a futuristic two-tone mullet hem gown by Vionnet, while Alice Eve was a fashion knock out in a simple strapless dress by Ermanno Scervino.

The Great Gatsby World Premiere, New York – Wednesday 1 May

And it begins… The Great Gatsby promo tour kicked off in New York on Wednesday night. Carey Mulligan is the ultimate less is more dresser, as she opted for a simple but breathtaking strapless Lanvin red dress with platforms by Brian Atwood and simple Tiffany & Co jewels. So Carey’s not going to wear Miuccia Prada’s designs for the whole tour like some predicted. Isla Fisher wore a floral gown by Dolce, Anna Wintour looked like her usual ice-queen self in a white Chanel dress and Florence Welch wore a Miu Miu dress with an embellished collar detail and matching necktie.

Catherine Martin and Miuccia Prada Dress Gatsby Opening Cocktail Party, New York – Tuesday 30 April

Carey Mulligan, Florence Welch, Katy Perry, Alexa Chung and a bunch of A Listers donned their favourite Prada and Miu Miu to celebrate the opening of the Great Gatsby exhibition at the Prada New York Epicentre at 575 Broadway in Manhattan. Carey opted for black lace, Katy Perry went for a purple printed sleeved cocktail dress, while Harley Viera Newton looked oh-so pretty in a powder blue coat and dress and heels. Anyone else counting down the days until The Great Gatsby hits Cannes

White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner – Saturday 27 April

Missing awards season Well Katy Perry, Kerry Washington and more hit the red carpet at the White House on Saturday in some jaw-dropping couture. We reckon the best dressed red carpet go-er is a toss up between Kerry Washington in a black and white halter gown by Wes Gordon and Katy Perry in a strapless green Giambattista Valli floorsweeper.

Hayden Panettiere’s favourite Disney princess was obviously Belle, as she wore a buttercup tulle Katherine Kidd gown with mesh panels at the sides and strands of Swarovski crystals. At the opposite end of the style spectrum was Kate Mara, in a white sleeved Prada gown with an oversized bow at the neck. We heart her lime-green Prada clutch.

Claire Danes wore a powder blue Prada column dress with sequin embellishment running down the sides. Sophia Bush had the biggest skirt of all the skirts, in a Lela Rose blush gown with a train and embroidery on the bodice. What’s your verdict – too bridal or pretty prom queen

Vote For Your Festival Style Icon: Fashion Bloggers And Grazia Staff Pick Their Favourites From Alexa Chung To Diane Kruger

Posted on July 14, 2013 at 4:55 pm

Coachella may be over and done this year, but we’ve still got a whole summer of festivals on the way. From Glastonbury to Wireless, once you’ve got your ticket, it’s time to think about that all-important festival wardrobe.

There are few who manage to tow the line between practical and stylish while retaining their dignity at a music festival. On the whole, A-list stars don’t really err on the side of practical (given that they spend the majority of the weekend sipping bubbly in the VIP tent), but they do offer up plenty of fashion inspiration for us regular folk on how we can work a fabulous festival look while we queue for the portaloos.

We asked our favourite bloggers and our fashion team to tell us who inspires their own festival style choices, and it’s little surprise that the names that came up are all regular festivalgoers. The Coachella crew including Diane Kruger, Solange Knowles and blogger Rumi Neely are all nominated for their individual approach to warm weather festival dressing, while Sienna Miller and Florence Welch are given a special nod for championing boho style. Who can forget Miller’s 2004 look when she came close to knocking Glastonbury goddess Kate Moss off her festival throne And let’s not forget Alexa Chung, who has almost single-handedly made Barbour jackets the British festival essential. When it comes to the boys, Nick Grimshaw leads the way for his use of colour and print and daring to wear a pair of Gucci loafers to a festival – well it was a Coachella pool party after all.

Vote for your festival style icon and follow the latest festival news on our Festivals channel.

Art Attack-ed Denim! Simeon Farrar And Donna Ida Customise Jeans With Neon Paint

Posted on July 12, 2013 at 9:04 am

Yesterday afternoon in the window of the Donna Ida pop-up store in Chelsea, classic blue jeans were transformed into art thanks to Mr Simeon Farrar. The London based designer who is the brains behind Black Score tees, moved his workshop into the shop front for the afternoon to splatter jeans and t-shirts with neon paint.

Simeon took to the floor to screen print electric stars and snakeskin and (with some help from Donna Ida) scrunch handfuls of paint into denim. They ‘destroyed’ everything from white skinny jeans to slouchy boyfriends with look-at-me paint – giving a whole new meaning to ‘distressed jeans.’

But this makeshift workspace wasn’t too different from how Simeon usually works, as he told us ‘because I come from a fine art background my main way of working is to stick it on the floor and get painting. But this is the first time I’ve done jeans.’

Simeon said of customising: ‘Everything we do is relatively bespoke and totally hand done. I want that running throughout the whole brand so doing this is just perfect because they are like a piece of art. When you look at the rail it’s like looking through a rack of paintings.’ He added: ‘Denim lends itself to the distressed look. It’s like something you would have worn at Woodstock, but they totally fit for now.’

Donna and Simeon’s fashion friendship goes back years, as Donna started buying his tees six years ago. ‘I just saw it in you. I saw the potential that you would one day understand marbling,’ Donna teased.

London’s jeans guru said of Simeons’ painted denim, ‘If you have a pair of jeans you haven’t worn for ages you can suddenly give them a whole new life and wear them again – you can reinvent your wardrobe. When I was growing up in Australia I would rip out the knees of the jeans, get floral fabric and do a blanket stitch around it.’

At Grazia Daily we obviously wanted to have our own go, so we got a pair of slouchy Current Elliotts splattered in white, yellow, pink and green paint. So how should we wear our art-attacked, neon-tastic denim Simeon and Donna both agreed that they have to be paired with a classic white tee. Donna advised that we should ‘let the jeans stand out, that’s the art so then you just want to keep the rest as a canvas.’

Grazia Daily Emma’s customised jeans

It’s the personal touch which makes them so special as you could pick the exact colours, prints and level of ‘paint-splattering’ you wanted. Simeon said ‘I like to do it it just for you. So when you wear it you remember this day and it lives on more than just a pair of jeans in your wardrobe. It brings back a memory of a certain time, which adds a new dimension.’

This might be the first time Simeon has printed jeans, but he reckons he can customise just about anything. The designer has been customising in stores in Japan for years where he has been asked to print everything from Vespas to parka jackets. Farrar told us ‘Once I had a six year old boy that wanted a screen print on the back of his t-shirt so we had him lie down on the floor and we put the screen on his back. So if we can customise a six year old boy, we can customise anything.’

Want to see how Simeon created the neon-tastic denim Watch the video below to watch the jeans get well and truly destroyed…

The Donna Ida Sale Pop Up will be open through out May at 171 Draycott Avenue, and the Donna Ida flagship is now open at 106 Draycott Avenue.
