Elite Model Management Founder John Casablancas Dies At 70

Posted on March 5, 2014 at 2:25 pm

While you might not have heard of legendary manager scout John Casablancas, who passed away on Saturday aged 70, you’ll certainly be aware of the women he thrust into fashion’s spotlight. As founder of Elite model agency, Casablancas discovered Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista and Claudia Schiffer and helped shape the careers of Cindy Crawford, Gisele Bundchen and Heidi Klum. To call him ‘Mr Supermodel’ would be no exaggeration, and the agency he founded in Paris in 1972 and opened in New York in 1977 continues to be one of the industry’s most powerful names to this day.

John Casablancas Surrounded by Models in the 90’s

Stefania Valenti, chief executive officer of Elite World released a statement this weekend which paid tribute to Casablancas’ impact on the world of model management, “Elite World and The Society Management [a division of Elite World] are deeply saddened [by] Mr. John Casablancas’ passing. As a man of extraordinary talent, Mr. Casablancas was instrumental in formulating the global success of the Elite brand. His vision changed the model management concept, driving the careers of iconic top models.”

Serial Modeliser John Casablancas Was King of the Supermodel Era

While stunningly successful, Casablancas’ career was also beset with scandal and accusations of sleeping with teenage models signed to his agency. He famously stepped out with a 16 year old Stephanie Seymour aged 41 and an undercover BBC report in 1999 revealed Elite’s Europe executives bragging about their use of drugs and sexual relations with young models which while not implicating Casablancas himself, prompted his resignation from the agency a year later.

Casablancas ultimately relocated to Rio de Janiero where he died this weekend leaving behind his wife Aline and five children.

Instagram Pics Of The Day: Derek Blasberg’s Supermodel Cheerleaders And Cara Delevingne’s Cuddly Toy Collection

Posted on March 1, 2014 at 11:07 am

We didn’t have Derek Blasberg down as a soccer player, but it was a case of fashion meets football at the Adidas Fanatic tournament this weekend. The annual event brings together teams from New York’s creative workplaces and Blasberg donned a pair of studded boots to play for V Magazine’s squad. Ahead of the match he revealed his super shiny red kit with white stripes joking, “I am very excited to kick balls whilst wearing short shorts.” Of course, where Derek goes, so to do his stylish friends and the blogger’s cheerleaders included supermodels Joan Smalls, Karlie Kloss and Jacquelyn Jablonski who all rocked super stylish sportswear.

The writer posted a photo of his supportive pals on Instagram with the caption: “Sexiest cheering section ever: @joansmalls @siagren @jacquelynjablonski @karliekloss and Joe the Terrier”. He also shared a pic of himself sitting with Smalls after the game and added, “Even though she didn’t bring pom poms (as I specifically requested), @joansmalls was a chic cheerleader at our game today. Thanks for coming, boo!”

Meanwhile, following their fancy dress fun this weekend, Cara Delevingne has unveiled another intimate snap from the house she shares with fellow model Georgia May Jagger. The image features a floral bedspread with the Bart Simpson jumper, which Cara wore at New York Fashion Week as well as a selection of weird and wonderful cuddly toys. We wonder if the girls have combined their collections as she tagged it, “We are family”.

She’s Back! Miranda Kerr Rocks The Mango Campaign For A Second Season

Posted on February 25, 2014 at 3:48 pm

Victoria’s Secret model and wife of the equally stunning Orlando Bloom has just been announced as the face of high street retailer Mango for the second season…

Miranda Kerr for Mango Autumn/Winter 2013 Campaign

Kerr may have risen to fame as an “Angel” but Mango has tapped the stunner for a second season running. The Australian model once again teamed up with acclaimed photographers Inez & Vinoodh to showcase the brand’s drool-worthy Autumn Winter 2013 collection, which boasts in-trend pastel tones, miniature floral prints and a rockier, “Punk” influence.

“I had a great time shooting the Autumn Winter campaign for Mango with Inez and Vinoodh,” gushed the beauty after the shoot. “They are an amazing team to work with – we have such a good time together.

“The clothing is especially fun this season with a punk-inspired edge. I loved that Inez and Vinoodh kept the look of the campaign very raw and natural and I think it compliments the collection very well. They did a fantastic job, as always!”

Mango’s first campaign featuring the model saw Kerr adorned in some summer-tastic ensembles and striped prints.

Kerr follows the likes of Kate Moss, Claudia Schiffer and Naomi Campbell as faces for the brand. Milf-tastic! It must be said we’re happy to finally be able to rock some summer pieces, but a sneak peek at the forthcoming collection makes us a little more excited for the autumn.
