The Return Of The Scrunchie Make Like Cressida Bonas And Go Back To The ’90s

Posted on November 7, 2013 at 4:37 pm

Ashish S/S 2013- scrunchie inspiration for Cressida’s Glastonbury ‘do

Ever since we spied them on the heads of Olympic gymnasts during last summer’s games, we can’t help but notice that the good old 90’s scrunchie really is popping up everywhere. At Ashish’s spring/summer 2013 show, models strutted down the catwalk with effortlessly messy topknots secured in place with white scrunchies, and even Hilary Clinton made headlines last year for wearing this much-debated hair accessory. So, when we spotted Cressida Bonas at Glasto on Saturday wearing a white scrunchie, we reckon this trend might just be on to something. A scrunchie revival, you say Well, indeed!

Popularised during the mid-’80s, the scrunchie craze reached its peak in the ’90s, but quickly became passé as an accessory and has definitely had its fair share of bad rap over the years. Crucified by Carrie Bradshaw in that infamous episode of Sex and the City when she claimed that ‘real’ New York women would never wear a scrunchie, the hair accessory’s popularity dwindled faster than our love for The Body Shop’s White Musk.

Fast forward to 2013 and famous fans of the scrunchie include Sienna Miller, Uma Thurman, Whitney Port and Mary-Kate Olsen to name a few. Even catwalk queen Cara Delevingne was snapped up by quirky fashion brand My Crazy Scrunchie to be the face of their new campaign, definitely putting the ‘cool’ back in scrunchie.

Still not convinced Ever thought about the benefits wearing a scrunchie has for your hair As a snag free band, the scrunchie won’t cause breakage, plus available in such a bright range of colours (get yourself down to American Apparel), you’ll never be rummaging in your handbag for a little hair tie ever again, and until you need to wear it, a scrunchie looks pretty chic on your wrist, too.

Check out our best scrunchie moments for some ’90s-inspiration. If it’s good enough for Cressida and Cara, it’s definitely good for us…

Hair Painting – Proving an extremely popular technique

Posted on October 14, 2013 at 9:31 am

Hair painting can be a popular way of adding highlights to a person’s hair. Rather than using foils, large part of hair are taken and painted freehand, and it can be quite scary, especially is it’s not been done before.

We recommend you always see a professional when it comes t hair painting, otherwise it can look uneven, and amateur. Hair painting in doesn’t only have to apply to highlighting, and 2013 is seeing more and more people using the technique to apply bold colours.

Like painting, hair painting can be seen as an art, and it can often take quite a long time to perfect. One benefit of using hair painting is because of roots. Hairs is forever growing, and as the roots begin to show the colours drop, and eventually become replace with the natural colour. This doesn’t affect hair painting as much is would foil, because hair painting can work well with natural colours, and you’re less lightly going to need to run to a salon for a top up.

Once hair painting is complete its fundamental to let it dry naturally, it well make the hair seem healthier and less damaged by the heat. Keep up with the trend this year, and use hair painting to display the colour you crave.

Rihanna Debuts Two Tone Blonde Rapunzel Hair At Basketball Game

Posted on July 20, 2013 at 8:13 am

Rihanna has had even more hairstyles than singles, as she’s gone from brunette to red to blonde and back again, with under-cuts, mega quiffs, pixie crops and flowing long curls. Her hair-volution is even harder to keep up with than her relationship status with a certain are they aren’t they boyfriend of hers.

Obviously bored of the ombre curls she’s been rockin’ on her Diamonds tour, last night RiRi debuted a new never-been-tried-by-Rihanna hairstyle (and we all know how rare those are). This time she’s channelling Repunzel as she had super duper long blonde locks ironed poker straight. She added a rock n’ roll edge to the style by sticking with a two tone colour, as she left the three inches from her parting dark.

The Bajan beauty debuted the new look to sit courtside to watch the Brooklyn Nets play the Chicago Bulls in the NBA Playoffs. As we’re not exactly NBA experts, we’re not too sure what that means but we did like her Jay Z reference, as she tweeted a picture of her feet on the court with the caption ‘I could trip a referee.’

Rihanna’s courtside look must have been rather distracting to the poor players, as the mega star wore micro denim cut-offs with risky gladiator sandals and a spaghetti strap black vest. Obviously she also wore her MAC Ruby Woo signature red lippie and was weighed down by her piled on gold jewellery.

If you are in need of some hair-spiration look then look no further than Rihanna as we can’t think of one hairstyle she now hasn’t tried. Pixie crop Check. Undercut Tick. Fiery red bob Been there, done that. See RiRi’s full hair history in the gallery below and let us know which is your favourite ‘do…

Alber Elbaz for Lancôme

Beauty/fashion collaborations are nothing new, but my gosh do they get us excited or what! Alber will be taking time out of his busy schedule as Creative Director for Lanvin to design the ‘Hypnôse Show’ collection.
