Posted on November 17, 2013 at 3:08 pm

At just 24 years old Tanya Burr already has Make-Up Artist, Fashion and Beauty Blogger and YouTube beauty guru on her CV and she’s fast becoming a regular face on the red carpet at parties and premieres. Here at Grazia Daily we’ve been following her work for some time now and have loved the tips she offers up in her weekly feature where she’s revealed how to get the beauty looks of A-list stars from Taylor Swift to Lana Del Rey.

Now Tanya has agreed to give us a behind the scenes look at what she gets up to in a weekly diary in pictures. In last week’s entry Tanya attended the Topman show and various parties as part of London Collections: Men. She met male model David Gandy at the Men’s Health and Oliver Spencer bash celebrated makeup maven Charlotte Tilbury’s pop up at Selfridges along with the unveiling of a beautiful 3D Kate Moss artwork. This week, the blogger had another full party calendar, kicking off with Kelly Brook’s Vita Liberata launch where she wore a Reiss dress and nude heels as she hung out with her fiancé Jim and good friend Ruth Crilly from the blog A Model Recommends. The following night it was time to get dressed up again, this time for the Slazenger Wimbledon party where Tanya, wearing a Whistles leather top, Topshop jersey skirt and bright green Zara shoes, rubbed shoulders with the likes of Rochelle Wiseman and Made In Chelsea’s Mark Francis as – and tucked into strawberries and cream. Well ’tis the season!

Sarah Jessica Parker’s Hairvolution: From Perms To Ombré Waves

Posted on November 15, 2013 at 8:44 pm

Whilst she might be known for her Manolos, any beauty aficionado will be quick to tell you that when it comes to SJP, it really is all about the hair. From big and blonde to brown and cropped to dip-dyed waves, it’s safe to say that Sarah Jessica Parker’s hair has gone through one heck of a hairvolution over the course of her stellar career.

Already in the limelight by the age of 15 when she took to the stage as little orphan Annie in the musical, SJP really has proved herself quite the hair chameleon. Throughout the 80’s, Sarah Jessica rocked some pretty awesome do’s- perms and fringes were topped off with neon make-up and bright lips.

In 1998, the world was introduced to Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and The City, and with her bouncy blonde curls and bold fashion choices, the rest really was history, as they say! The early noughties saw us ogling over Carrie’s amazing beauty looks- from wild and curly to sleek and straight, one might say our fave columnist’s tresses had more ups and downs than her relationship with Big…

When it comes to the red carpet, it’s safe to say SJP gets our glamour vote every time- never failing to make an entrance with her incredible up-do’s, sleek side partings, and stunning headpieces, there’s always tons of body and volume. Take note, ladies!

So how has SJP managed to carry off such a plethora of stunning looks Rumours over the years have suggested that the 48-year-old actress has worked with a dizzying array of celeb hairdressers, always keen for a fresh set of scissors on her mane to keep her naturally curly tresses looking slick and up-to-date.

Check out our SJP’s best hair moments in our gallery above…

Triathlon Tourist Blog: My Swimming Training Journey So Far or Life In The Medium Lane

Posted on November 13, 2013 at 2:14 pm

Swimmers – who look like they know what to do – in last year’s Shock Absorber WO Triathlon

When considering training for and competing in the triathlon, the aspect that floated my boat the least had to be the idea of hurling oneself in a freezing lake and thrashing out 700 or 1000 meters surrounded by more skilled swimmers, all competing to kick me hardest in the face as they overtook me.

I didn’t even think I would enjoy the training in the (heated) pool very much and most shaming of all – I couldn’t swim front crawl, or even put my face in the water as trying to breathe made me panic and freak out – fearing I was having a stroke. But THEN I went on a training day at Dorney Lake with the amazing John and Marsha of RG Active, experienced triathlon swimming coaches who managed to provide both a reality check and a confidence boost to a gang of frightened beginners including some so inexperienced they even put their wetsuit on inside out (me).

Hurling themselves in the lake at beautiful Eton Dorney for the 2012 triathlon

So scared was I, that when trainer Dermott gave me a schedule with three swimming sessions a week on it, I actually cancelled my social life there and then, bought a new swimming cozzie from TOPSHOP (what It’s got a wolf on it!) started training in earnest. I forced myself to swim front crawl, although I couldn’t keep it up for a full length at first; a few weeks in, I can just about manage 1000m front crawl (yes, with my face in the water) plus a few lengths breaststroke in the slow lane to unwind afterwards.

The biggest surprise was how enjoyable it is. The 50m outdoor Lido is about three quarters of my way home from work, and has turned out to be the perfect way to de-stress after a day behind a desk. Life in the medium lane – that’s me.

Before and after – this time last year I would only swim breaststroke to avoid smudging my makeup, now I’ve had to take it more seriously

Aside from being able to swim a reasonable distance, in triathlon you’ll have to cope with the lake – or ‘open water’ – freezing cold, no sides to push off and no guide on what direction to go in (remember – your head’s under water). To combat this, RG Active run outdoor swimming sessions so you can do battle with the wetsuit in preparation, and even get used to the temperature and general murkiness before the event. The good thing about wearing a wetsuit is you don’t have to get a bikini wax – ummm, I mean it’s more buoyant – so you have to kick less and (fingers crossed) shouldn’t sink.

However, it’s not completely easy-peasy so here are some tips for swimming training to make the transition from tadpole to dolphin (or something) a bit smoother.

Sighting

This means look where you’re going in between the strokes as you want to swim straight ahead and not crash into the bank. Use a landmark on the horizon to help you.

Technique

Visualise yourself swimming like an arrow whizzing through tube – a keeping your body taut and rotating the hips. Fewer, more powerful strokes are much better than lots of smaller, panicky ones.

A mantra in your head

If, like me you lack confidence when it comes to sportiness, it can be useful to keep a positive mantra going in your head. Something like ‘I am a machine’ or ‘everything’s going to be fine’ should do the trick. When comedian David Walliams swam the Channel and the Thames, he claimed to recite song lyrics and sing in his head to keep up morale. When I’m feeling really fatigued, rather than focus on the number of lengths I still have to complete, I usually tell myself I can get out after two more. I haven’t chickened out of my full quota yet.

Gorgeously dewy skin was seen on the likes of Sienna Miller and Millie Mackintosh, and coral lips were the order of the day for Rita Ora and Iggy Azalea. Good work, ladies!
